How can I be assured that my psychologist is qualified to provide me with the best possible treatment?

The title "Psychologist" is restricted by law in Australia. All Psychologists must be registered with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) who is responsible for the accreditation and registration of 10 health professions across Australia. AHPRA's operations are governed by the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) which came into effect on 1 July 2010. The primary role of registration boards is to set nationally consistent standards and policies that all registered health practitioners must meet in order to protect the public.

Important information about all registered practitioners is published and can be viewed on the National Registers. The online register for psychologists can be viewed at www.psychologyboard.gov.au.
